Mrs. Sylvia Logan

(1943 - 2026)

~Final Reverence~ to

Our hearts are broken and we are saddened to have to say good-bye to our beloved teacher, mentor and director. Multiple generations of dancers and parents fell in love with her, the school, and the benefits they received from her dedicated pursuit of quality dance instruction. After opening Rothesay Ballet School in 1975, she became the community's leader in classical ballet training, fearlessly guiding thousands of children in the only registered school with the international standards of The Royal Academy of Dance in London, England. Her impact on the community is immense, from creating the not-for-profit performance arm Gala Ballet Productions, which produces the annual holiday ballet, "The Nutcracker", to shepherding countless dancers through exams, public performances, or into a professional career as performers, teachers and dance school owners. She had high standards and somehow we all wanted to please her, as we felt her belief in us to achieve great things. Like her voice, which remains in our heads as we strive to conquer many things in life, we will always keep her love in our hearts. As we go forward into the future without her here in person, we know she will continue to guide us as we continue her long legacy. We are thankful for the privilege of having had her in our lives and we hope we make her proud. Most of all, we hope she is dancing freely and joyously now to her heart's content. After so many years of giving of herself to others, we make a final bow and reverence to her.

"Rest, Mrs. Logan. Rest."

Tributes pouring in...

I was lucky enough to join Rothesay Ballet school in 1979 and danced with Mrs. Logan until 1989. She was truly a remarkable ballet teacher. Her expertise and passion for the art form, instilled in me a lifelong love of dance—a gift that continues to enrich my life every day. Her ability to inspire, challenge, and nurture her students was unparalleled, and the lessons I learned in her studio went far beyond the barre. For all the grace, discipline, and joy she brought into my life, I am forever grateful.

I work at the Royal Academy of Dance and although I never met Sylvia face-to-face, I always felt that I knew her through our many conversations. Her love, support and integrity towards her school, dancers and loved ones shone through every conversation we had. The Saint John dance community has lost a great and loving leader, and the RAD has lost an impactful and dedicated member. You will be missed, Sylvia!

Dear Alison, Nikki, and Family, As we were taking down our Christmas tree today and putting things away, Elizabeth removed an ornament that your Mom had presented to me years ago for playing the role of Herr Drosselmeyer in the ‘Nutcracker’ with the Rothesay Ballet Company and performed at Imperial Theatre. Strangely, that was when we learned of your Mom’s passing. We were both saddened by the news and are heartbroken for your loss. Our sympathies and condolences are with you during this most difficult time. Sylvia left an amazing legacy to New Brunswick’s performing arts sector and nurtured many young people to appreciate the art of dance and choreography. She was a leader in the field of ballet and was so proud of all her students. Our caring thoughts and prayers are with you as you reflect on your mother’s life and her many contributions to her family, friends, dance, and the community. Most sincerely.

Outpouring of love...

For nearly 20 years, you were more than my ballet teacher you were my mentor and one of the most influential people in my life. You taught me far more than technique. You taught me discipline and the love of ballet. I looked up to you not only as my teacher but for the way you carried yourself with strength and elegance. You believed in me long before I fully believed in myself, and that belief shaped the dancer I became and the dance teacher and choreographer I am today. I hear myself in class and often sound just like you with the corrections I give and in the care I show my students. Your legacy lives on through every dancer you touched, and I am honoured to be one of them. Thank you for your patience, your wisdom, and your unwavering dedication to your students and to the art of ballet. I will carry your lessons with me always. You will never be forgotten.

To all the family and loved ones of Mr. and Mrs. Logan, I am so sorry for your losses. Sylvia was an incredible, beautiful person, who inspired love and loyalty far beyond time in the studio. As a former student—more than 20 years ago—she is still one of the voices in my head (“bigger, better, stronger, longer”). The lessons we learned through ballet carried us into adulthood and beyond. She gifted generations of children with discipline, poise, grace and grit. 🩰 And even though she cared for her ‘girls’ so deeply, we always knew how much she loved Alan, her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were everything. Sending love and prayers to everyone mourning her loss.

Mrs. Logan was my first ballet teacher at the tender age of 4 she nurtured my love of dance until I graduated high school and beyond. I would not be the woman I am today without her guiding presence throughout my life encouraging me to challenge myself, be strong and accomplish goals I never dreamed of. I will be forever thankful for the legacy of dance she has left with Rothesay ballet school. I’m so honoured to be able to return every Thursday to dance there with my fellow adult dancers and Frank Augustyn, remembering everything Sylvia taught us and having her forever in my mind telling me to straighten those knees and point those toes. She will be dearly missed but her spirit will live on in the thousands of dancers she has inspired throughout her life.

My sincere condolences for both of your losses. Sylvia was my ballet teacher for many years and helped shape me as a dancer and a young person. She taught me poise, discipline and of course, great posture. Some of my fondest memories as a young girl are performing on stage with Rothesay Ballet. She made me feel like I was really good at something and I'm grateful for the experience. I was able to babysit her twin granddaughters for a time as well which I enjoyed very much.

My sincere condolences and prayers for Allison, Nikki, and all the family. My childhood was full of joy and so much of this joy was because of your mom. Like with so many young girls, she taught me so much more than dance and the love for dance. She instilled confidence, drive, passion, excellence, and so much more to me and countless others. Mrs. Logan’s impact and memory will live on through many
